Treating Psoriasis with Remicade

Prevea Health Offers Newly Approved Psoriasis Treatment

Prevea Health is now offering the FDA-approved drug Remicade for the treatment of chronic, severe psoriasis.

Remicade (generic name infliximab) works by blocking a chemical in the immune system that over-stimulates inflammation. This chemical, called tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), is found in the skin of people with psoriasis and in the joints of people with certain types of arthritis.

By lowering the amount of TNF-alpha, Remicade interrupts the inflammatory cycle of psoriasis, which can lead to a 75 percent improvement in psoriasis symptoms.

Treatments are offered at the Prevea St. Mary's Health Center, located at 1715 Dousman St. in Green Bay. During treatments, patients receive an infusion of the drug through an IV over a two- to three-hour period. They then receive an additional infusion two and six weeks after the first, and then again every eight weeks thereafter.

Remicade is also approved to treat such diseases as psoriatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.

Call your primary care physician or dermatologist today to learn more about Remicade treatments and the other services now available at Prevea Health.
