The day I met Randall Cobb

No two work days are alike for me; this is what keeps me on my toes. But nothing could have prepared me for the experience I had this past February.

Let me back up. As a dietitian, I was provided an amazing experience by being able to co-author a cookbook … to make this even more unforgettable, it was with professional athlete, Randall Cobb. Our cookbook is called Prevea Gets Cooking with Cobb: Randall’s Favorite Kid-Friendly Recipes.

The day I’ll never forget is the day we did our photo shoot for the cookbook. I drove in bright and early with a car load of kitchen supplies and an abundance of groceries. We were going to make some of the recipes to photograph and also do some “how to” videos with Randall and four kids.

After I arrived, I was met at the door with many helping hands and we started prepping food right away. But shortly after, it was then time for my hair and make-up. A hair and make-up artist for me? I never would have dreamed it. But this cookbook and the promotional pieces we were working on were the real deal – AND with Randall Cobb!

We had been working on creating the cookbook for some time. Much preparation went into every detail for the outline of the day as the marketing team had accounted for every minute.

Most of the morning was filled with short video shoots and pictures featuring some of the recipes in the cookbook. I had the wonderful opportunity to work alongside four amazing kids in the kitchen. I am sure they were just as excited and nervous to meet Randall, but we had much to get done before he arrived.

An exciting moment for me that morning was when we made our Don’t Be Crabby Stir Fry. Once we finished, much to my surprise, the kids asked if they could eat some right away! This made my heart swell as it was only 10:15 a.m. and that was what they wanted to eat!

Once Randall arrived he couldn’t have been more personable with all of us. I really tried to remain calm as I knew our agenda was tight and we had to get a lot accomplished with pictures and videos. At one point, I found myself rambling in the video. Once I stopped I turned to Randall and said, “I am so sorry… people don’t want to hear from me. They want to hear from you!” He just laughed and said, “But you are very interesting!” Of course I got all red and before I knew it I said, “I am standing next to Randall Cobb. Give me a minute…” Everyone assisting with the shoot laughed. Then we continued and Randall not only did great in the kitchen, but he was awesome with the kids. He even juggled bell peppers for them!

I will never forget this amazing day of my career. Not only did I have the chance to co-author a cookbook, but I also had the chance to do so alongside Randall. Click here for more information about Prevea Gets Cooking with Cobb: Randall’s Favorite Kid-Friendly Recipes.
