Exercising with Asthma

Exercise can elicit asthma attacks in athletes at all fitness levels. Asthma attacks can happen to people who train or perform in all different types of weather or climate. Having asthma doesn’t mean you have to stop exercising, but you should take a few precautions to prevent a full asthma attack.
  • Don’t exercise hard when you have a cold or you are ill
  • Choose a humid environment for your workouts
  • Avoid cool, dry or cold weather when working out
  • Use an inhaler prior to activity

If you think you have asthma, see a sports medicine physician. He or she can properly diagnose you and provide the appropriate treatment. To schedule an appointment, please call (920) 272-3300.
