The heartburn and pain caused by acid reflux can really disrupt all areas of your life. You’re forced to avoid certain foods. You lose focus. Often, you can’t sleep. It probably feels like you’ll suffer forever. But thanks to the LINX treatment for Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), you don’t have to. Prevea is proud to offer LINX, a simple 60-minute surgery that provides a lifetime of relief.

Q&A with Dr. Jassim, the first in the area to perform the LINX procedure

Prevea General Surgeon Dr. Hassanain Jassim introduced the LINX system to Green Bay, performing the first procedure in the area in early 2015. With extensive training in minimally-invasive surgery, Dr. Jassim worked closely with the Prevea Heartburn Treatment Center to bring this innovative solution for relief from GERD and acid reflux symptoms to our community.

How LINX treatment for GERD works

The LINX Reflux Management System is a surgical treatment option for severe cases of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), the condition more commonly known as acid reflux. GERD is caused by a weak lower esophageal sphincter (LES) that allows acid and bile to reflux or flow back from the stomach into the esophagus.

The LINX System is a small, flexible band of magnets enclosed in titanium beads. The beads are connected by titanium wires. The LINX System is implanted around the weak esophageal sphincter, just above the stomach. The magnetic attraction between the beads keeps the weak esophageal sphincter closed to help prevent reflux. The patient can eat and swallow food normally thanks to the flexibility of the LINX system.

LINX is implanted laparoscopically in a minimally-invasive procedure that typically takes less than one hour. Patients are placed under general anesthesia during the procedure. Generally, patients are able to go home and return to their normal diet the day after surgery.

Important information about insurance coverage: Once the recommendation is made to have the LINX system placed, we will obtain prior authorization for the procedure. Your insurance company will review your case and notify us of a decision 3-4 weeks following our request. Unfortunately, some insurance companies will refuse to pay for the LINX procedure even when your surgeon determines that the procedure is medically necessary and appropriate.
