Mental Health After Pregnancy

With an addition to your family, it’s expected there will be an emotional adjustment period. To promote good mental health and well-being, remember to take time for yourself. Accept help from family and friends when you need to reduce stress. Finally, consider joining a mother’s or postpartum support group. Being a new parent is a challenge, so having a strong support network is vital.

There are also topics you should discuss with your provider, including:
  • Mood swings or “baby blues”
  • Symptoms of post-partum depression
  • Strategies for preventing depression.

Inform your health care provider right away if you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, anxious, sad, isolated, nervous or exhausted.
