Types of Shoulder Surgeries

We often ignore shoulder pain, but putting off treatment can lead to more pain and greater joint damage. With the Prevea Shoulder Center, you don’t have to live in pain any longer. Our comprehensive treatment options offer everything from therapy to medication, and a full range of shoulder surgeries.

Listed below are the three main types of surgeries available:
  • Shoulder arthroscopy. In shoulder arthroscopy, the surgeon inserts a tiny camera through an incision in your skin to examine or repair the tissues in and around your shoulder joint. It is commonly used to repair torn rotator cuffs, remove bone spurs, repair ligaments or to treat recurring shoulder dislocations.
  • Shoulder replacement. The shoulder consists of a ball and socket joint where the upper arm meets the shoulder blade. In shoulder replacement surgery, this joint is replaced with prosthetic parts. Prosthetics are designed to replicate natural shoulder functions and allow full range of movement.
  • Shoulder resurfacing. Depending on the damage to the shoulder, some patients may be candidates for a partial shoulder replacement, known as a shoulder resurfacing. An alternative to a total shoulder replacement, this procedure involves resurfacing damaged areas rather than replacing the whole joint.

When you decide to have shoulder surgery, no matter the procedure, our expert team of orthopedic surgeons, therapists and other providers all will be working in close collaboration to get you back in motion, pain free.
