At 313 pounds and with multiple, failed attempts at dieting and other weight loss methods, Deb Miranda of Plymouth decided to embark on a new journey: weight loss surgery.
“I hid in life a lot because of my weight,” recalls Deb. “I just didn’t want to sit in the background anymore.”
Unsure of where to begin on this new journey, Deb attended a free seminar hosted by Dr. Hassanain Jassim, who specializes in weight loss surgery at Prevea Health. She learned about laporoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, a minimally-invasive procedure that would allow for the nutrition she needed and result in significant weight loss.
Armed with this newfound knowledge, Deb decided to move forward with surgery. It was performed successfully in December 2016 by Dr. Jassim
and his team at HSHS St. Vincent Hospital
in Green Bay.
“They took care of all the details so that all I had to worry about was my recovery,” said Deb.
The laporoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, coupled with the support of Dr. Jassim and his team, have helped Deb to so far lose 137 pounds - and counting! Her life has changed in a number of ways. She’s no longer afraid of the doctor’s office, the scale or even rollercoasters.
“I went to Florida recently and I rode every roller coaster I could,” said Deb. I used to be afraid of not being able to fit in the seat, but I’m not anymore!”
Deb is also grateful she wasn’t afraid to move forward with the weight loss surgery. She feels empowered now more than ever before and finally feels she’s living life in the front row. Deb encourages others who are struggling with weight loss to do the same.
“Empower yourself and take life into your own hands,” she says. “Nothing will hold you back, then.”
For Deb, the changes have been empowering – she now asserts herself and won’t settle for anything less than she deserves.
