Optical Eye care
Visiting the “eye doctor” covers a wide range of individuals and services, each serving unique roles in the realm of eye care. At Prevea, we're proud to provide comprehensive eye care services through four distinct types of eye care providers: opticians, optometrists, ophthalmologists and low vision therapists. Each of these professionals have a unique role in providing eye care.

Prevea’s opticians are highly-skilled professionals and offer a personal, one-on-one experience with patients as they are shopping for eyewear or contacts. They spend quality time with the patient to ensure the frames chosen fit the patient's face shape appropriately. In addition, Prevea’s opticians will assist with choosing the right lens options based on patients’ prescription and lifestyle.

Prevea optometrists are trained to provide primary eye care, including vision testing, prescribing corrective eyewear and managing certain eye diseases. They care for both children and adults for routine eye exams. Optometrists may refer patients to an ophthalmologist for specialized care or surgery when necessary.

Within Prevea's optometry practice, our dedicated optometrists, Doctors of Optometry (OD), also address and manage various eye conditions, such as diabetic retinopathy, dry eye syndrome and glaucoma. In addition, we offer comprehensive services encompassing cataract evaluations, eye disease management and precise contact lens fittings.

Our optometrists are committed to preserving and enhancing our patients' vision and ocular health and tailor our care to meet the unique needs of each individual. Each patient's examination is personalized, and our team collaboratively devises tailored plans to cater to their vision and eye health requirements.

Prevea ophthalmologists are medical doctors with a broader scope of practice that includes surgical procedures and the ability to diagnose and treat both eye and general health conditions. Our ophthalmologists at Prevea can diagnoses and treat not only eye conditions, but also other medical conditions that may affect the eyes.

Another important part of the eye care team are low vision therapists. Low vision therapy is a specialty service provided by Prevea to help patients get the most out of their eyesight. Therapy can help manage common age-related eye conditions, such as glaucoma, cataracts, night blindness and retinitis pigmentosa.

Prevea is home to the only certified low-vision treatment therapist in Wisconsin north of Milwaukee. Some of Prevea’s key therapy services include things like glare control, magnification aids (with skilled hands-on training on electronic devices and state-of-the-art technology), adapted eye movements and contrast enhancements. These techniques and strategies help patients with adapting to the changes in their eyesight and help patients get back to their everyday lives.

Whether it is through our opticians, optometrists, ophthalmologists or low vision therapists, Prevea is committed to providing the best care for all different eye care needs, specializing in the patient first. Find your local Prevea eye care physician or provider and schedule today.
