An Update on Prevea’s Western Wisconsin Operation

If watching your waistline is also on your to-do list, be aware that some traditional holiday beverages are surprisingly high in calories. Check out the stats on a few below:

When it comes to mixed drinks, keep in mind the number of calories depends on the amount and proof of the alcohol, the mixers and the size of the drink. Most mixed drinks start with 1.5 ounces of distilled spirits, which only have around 96 calories. It’s the mixers, syrups and sodas that pack on the calories.

No matter what your beverage of choice is, the higher the alcohol content, the higher the calories. Most glasses of wine contain 125 to 150 calories. However, keep in mind that a serving of wine is only five ounces. Beer can range from 64 to 198 calories per 12 ounces. Light beers are a better choice because they contain the same amount of alcohol as regular beers, but with fewer carbohydrates.

There are several ways to cut calories at your family get together or company party:

  • Choose diet soda instead of regular soda to save you 100 calories.
  • Skip the mixer and have flavor-infused liquors on the rocks.
  • Alternate alcoholic and nonalcoholic zero-calorie drinks, such as sparkling water with lime.
  • Choose light beer, wine or simple cocktails with low-calorie mixers.

Eat, drink (responsibly) and be merry!
