Medical Oncologists

Your medical oncologist cares for you from the moment of diagnosis throughout the course of treatment and survivorship. They will develop a customized treatment plan just for you.

The focus of medical oncology is on providing treatments against cancer that has or could spread to other parts of the body. Your oncologist may also provide treatments to help shrink a cancerous tumor so a surgeon can more effectively remove it.

Hematology and Blood Disorders

Hematologists diagnose and treat blood cancers, blood-related disorders and manage medical infusion therapies for non-cancerous blood disorders.

The hematology program at the Prevea Cancer Center, in partnership with HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital, provides specialized medical therapies for each patient. We use every advancement to customize a treatment plan that's right for you.

Radiation Oncologist

Radiation Oncologists are physicians with advanced training who are key decision makers in choosing whether radiation therapy may be of value and the type of radiation therapy an individual may receive. This physician is the team leader and stays with you from initial consultation all the way through follow-up care.

Nurse Navigator

A cancer diagnosis can be overwhelming to patients and their families. Coordinating physician visits, appointments and treatments can be time-consuming and stressful. We’re committed to helping you during your cancer journey. Through our navigator program, you’ll have a specially-trained nurse who will be with you ever step of the way.

Nurse navigator services are provided at no cost to the patient. This is a Prevea Health and Hospital Sisters Health System mission-supported service for cancer patients and their families.

Counselors

Licensed counselors are available to help you and your family to cope with your diagnosis, treatment and side effects of a cancer diagnosis. We offer supportive counseling, stress management, relaxation/visualization/imagery techniques, spiritual support, biofeedback and education.

Oncology Dietitians

Eating the right kinds of foods before, during and after cancer treatment can help you feel better, stay stronger and heal faster. Good nutrition is especially important because both the illness and its treatments can change the way you eat and absorb nutrients. You may also notice an effect on the way your body tolerates certain foods. Our registered dietitians will work with you to determine your personal nutrition needs and provide you with an individualized plan to optimize healthy eating choices and keep you strong, as well as provide a variety of nutrition education materials and resources.

During or after treatment, concerns related to weight or diet may occur. A specially trained Dietitian is available to help with:

• Weight loss
• Poor appetite
• Nausea or vomiting
• Constipation
• Diarrhea
• Sore or dry mouth or throat
• Taste changes
• Questions about special diet restrictions
• Difficulty swallowing

Dietitians help patients deal with these concerns by providing advice or by working with the physicians to prescribe medical interventions.

Financial counselors

Of course, no one plans on a cancer diagnosis, or the lost work time and wages that may result. We believe financial circumstances should never be a barrier to getting exceptional care. Our trusted experts can help you address and manage the costs of care, plus identify outside resources that may be able to assist with the financial impact of your treatment.

Social workers

Our social workers can provide assistance in dealing transportation needs, home care referrals, nursing home placement or home equipment needs.

Home Health and Hospice Service

Our partner, HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chippewa Falls offers Home Health and Hospice services in our region. The staff includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapist, speech pathologist, enterostomal therapists (for ostomy patients) and social workers. Home Health provides high-quality Medical equipment and services.
