Optical Eye care

So, you just picked out a new pair of glasses. Great! It’s important to know that the eyewear process doesn’t stop at picking out a new pair of glasses. Eyewear care can be a confusing process for those new to eyewear and those accustomed to wearing eyewear alike. Here are a few tips Prevea offers to help keep your eyewear in tip-top shape:

Dos:

  • Check the terms of your warranty. Prevea guarantees that your new glasses are made of the highest-quality materials and are free from any defects. To supplement this, review what your warranty entails. All prescription frames carry a warranty for at least one year against manufacture defects. This warranty does not cover mishandling or abuse of your eyewear. Prescription lenses may carry a one- or two-year warranty against scratches from normal wear and tear, depending on options you chose to purchase. Carefully read through your warranty, so you know what is covered and what is not covered.
  • Treat your glasses with care. Always keep your glasses in a hard, protective case when not being worn. This helps to eliminate the risk of damage from your glasses jostling around or getting lost or misplaced.
  • Keep your lenses clean. For best results, rinse your lenses with cool water, spray them with eyeglass cleaner and wipe them dry with a microfiber cloth. A variety of eyeglass accessories and supplies are available at Prevea Optical. Selection varies by location.
  • Come in if something isn’t working out – and soon! If you are not satisfied with your glasses, Prevea optical will restyle your frame one time within 30 days of the date your order was placed. This does come with a $50 restocking fee, plus any applicable cost difference for the new frames and/or lenses. If your prescription should need to be changed within 90 days of purchase, Prevea optical will replace your lenses one time at no charge. If your prescription needs to be changed 90 days to six months after your purchase, you will receive a 50 percent discount off the prescription lens fee.
  • Come in routinely, even if everything is good. It’s best practice to have your glasses adjusted and the screws tightened a few times each year. Prevea Optical offers these services at no charge.

Don’ts:

  • Don’t wipe your glasses on your clothing. While it’s easy and convenient to do, this causes the lenses to become scratched. If the temptation to wipe them is persistent, carry a microfiber cloth, which will not scratch the lens.
  • Don’t leave your glasses in hot areas, including cars. The temperature inside cars on a sunny day in summer can easily exceed 100 degrees. This can damage protective coatings on the lenses and allow your frames to become misshapen. This shortens the lifespan of glasses and may even be cause for immediate repairs or replacements.
  • Don’t expose your glasses to chemicals. Not even common ones like hand soap or household cleaners! Chemicals of all kinds can cause damage to lens coatings. When handling chemicals, be sure that containers are closed tightly, and your glasses are stored in a secure location.
  • Don’t try to fix your glasses yourself. If your frame cracks, you lose a screw or nose piece. or you have another situation when repairs are needed, it can be tempting to try and fix them yourself. However, common ‘do-it-yourself' fixes, like superglue, damage lenses and may do more harm to the original situation than good. If your glasses need to be repaired, stop into your local Prevea Optical. A trained Prevea optician can evaluate the damage and decide what the appropriate next steps are.
