Health and Wellness Center FAQs

Have questions about how the Health & Wellness Center works? This FAQ provides quick answers about available services, how we coordinate care, and how we protect your privacy—so you know what to expect and how to make the most of your visit.

  • Do I need to identify myself when entering the center?
Yes. Upon entering the center, you will be asked for a form of identification, such as your student ID or a driver’s license.

  • Will my parents know when and why I visited the center or Prevea Urgent Care?
No. Your health care information is protected under the federal HIPAA patient privacy rules and standards. Parents will only know of services provided if the services are billed to insurance and the student is on the parent’s insurance policy. Any services provided at no cost or paid at time of service will not be submitted to insurance.

  • Can I have labs drawn at the center that were ordered by a different doctor?
Yes. If you have a lab order from another provider, we can perform a blood draw and/or collection and send it to the lab for testing and processing.

  • How will my primary care doctor (regular doctor) receive test and lab results performed at the center?
If you are a Prevea patient, your medical records will automatically be available to your provider through EPIC, the electronic medical record. Many local health systems now use EPIC. There is a function in EPIC known as “Care Everywhere” that, with your permission, will allow other providers to access your medical record within other health systems that use EPIC. Otherwise, records can be faxed to your provider via confidential fax lines.

  • What if I like my current doctor? Do I have to use the center?
The center is a convenient and cost-effective option and a benefit to you. Which care provider you decide to see is 100% your choice.

  • Can I still use the center if my doctor is not with Prevea Health?
Yes. The providers at the center will communicate, upon request, about all services including lab work to your primary care provider. If additional follow up is needed, Prevea will refer you to your system of choice.

  • How will medical information be shared if I am already a Prevea Health patient?
Prevea has an electronic medical record at the center. Any service provided by the providers will automatically be communicated to your primary care provider through the electronic medical record.

  • What if I need a service that the center doesn't provide?
You may be referred to another provider for services; as a result, that provider’s care will be charged to your insurance.

  • Will my school know if I visit the center?
No. Your health care information is protected under the federal HIPAA patient privacy rules and standards.

  • Does my school have access to my records because they are sponsoring the center?
No. Schools do not have access to your medical records. The center is operated by Prevea Health employees and is in full regulatory compliance with HIPAA.

  • Since this is a school-sponsored center, do I need to carry additional medical insurance?
Yes. You still need insurance because the center covers a limited number of services. You still need insurance for medical procedures not available at the center, such as X-rays or catastrophic events.
