4 tips to de-clutter and de-stress
During the colder months, clutter naturally builds up, and sometimes a late spring cleaning is in order. Our environments are often a reflection of what’s going on in our mind. It’s important to help get rid of clutter and disarray to help you stay positive and the present. However, de-cluttering isn’t always as easy as it seems. Here are four tips to get you on your way to de-cluttering and de-stressing your life.
Get rid of things you don’t need. It can be difficult to let go of the things we accumulate over the years and all of the things that we think we need. Take a look at the things around you and ask “do I really, truly need this now?” Don’t think about the someday, where maybe, you could possibly use it. Think about right now. If you don’t use it or absolutely love it, donate it or throw it away.
Find a home for everything. Clutter builds up when we don’t have a home for our things. Designate a place for every single thing you own. If you can’t find a home for it, ask yourself why you have it. Once you find a place for everything, make sure it always is put back there. It will save you the stress and time of looking for things, and make you less likely to buy duplicates.
Clean out your closet. There’s a pretty good chance that you aren’t actually wearing a lot of your clothes. Go through your closet, and if you haven’t worn an item in the past six months, donate or recycle it. Unsure of what you’re wearing? The next time you hang up your clothes, make sure all the hangers are facing the same way. When you wear an article of clothing, put it back in your closet, and flip the hanger. Check back in a few months, and see what you are and aren’t wearing!
Make it manageable. Starting the process of de-cluttering your life can be overwhelming. Make it manageable by dividing the areas you want to clean into smaller, more manageable sections. Start with one section a day, and stop there. Once you’ve cleaned and organized that section, make sure you keep it that way. Before you know it, your entire home will be an organized, clutter and stress free environment.
Clutter can kill your sanity. Excess of stuff can take up room in your head, stopping you from being able to find peace and relax. Start small, keep with it and soon enough you’ll be able to breathe easy in a clean and organized space.
