Prevea Health now offering Springbok Body Fat MRI Scans

Scans help patients achieve safer weight loss, especially when using GLP-1 medications

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Prevea Health is the first in Northeast Wisconsin to offer Springbok Core Scans, body fat MRI scans, available to all weight-loss and GLP-1 patients. 

These full-body scans measure muscle density, illustrating where a person is deficient in muscle strength. They also measure fat infiltration in muscles, which cannot be captured on a typical scale.

“As individuals lose weight, preserving muscle mass is essential for long-term health and longevity,” says Danielle Witbro, Prevea Prescription for Wellness Health & Wellness Specialist. “It is important to closely monitor muscle changes throughout the weight loss process and support patients in maintaining, or building, muscle as appropriate.”

Ideally, GLP-1 patients would have the option to receive this scan prior to their treatment to identify their existing body fat and muscle mass. They would then receive a second scan toward the end of their treatment to identify any potential muscle mass loss and ensure their body is responding to the weight loss in a healthy way.

According to Dr. Lara Powers, a Prevea Family Medicine physician board-certified in Lifestyle Medicine, muscle loss is one of the main risks for individuals using GLP-1s.

“By monitoring this parameter, we make sure that the weight loss is sustainable and maintain the health of the patients,” says Dr. Powers.
